Privacy Policy - Human Readable Version

I don't want to do anything creepy with your data. I charge users directly for Slopes Passes so I can avoid having to sell your data or do anything else questionable to make money and stay in business. I may use some of your data responsibly to improve Slopes, but that's it.

Let's unpack how I use and store your data:

A) Identifiable Data: If You Don't Have a Slopes Account

B) Identifiable Data: With a Slopes Account

What specifically do I store about your recordings, and how?

At this point I'm giving you free online backup / sync, which does mean your recorded data is now on my servers.

What data is shared with people you friend in Slopes?

What about the group location sharing feature?

I don't do anything with this location data, and access to it is limited. It does not leave the Slopes servers except to your friends in-app or via that link. My one exception to this rule is if ski patrol or a similar group reaches out to Slopes to help find a missing skier; if I can help save a life I will look up your last known location.

OK dude, you have my data, what do you do with it?

I act responsibly with it. Beyond what is needed to run Slopes I will not share your data with third parties, unless you enable a third-party integration such as connecting your Slopes account to Strava. But at that point sharing your data with a third party was kinda the point, right?

I will never, ever, sell your data.

How is your data shared with third parties so I can run Slopes?

How is your data used inside Slopes?

How do I delete my data?

If at any point you'd like to remove all of your data from the Slopes servers you can do so in-app under Account -> Edit Account & Profile -> Delete. If you don't have an account, just delete the app!

C) Anonymous Data Captured in-app to Improve Slopes

Beyond your account, purchase, and activity data outlined above, there is some anonymous/pseudonymous usage data Slopes tracks in-app:

Privacy Policy - Legalese Version

Slopes is owned, operated, and maintained by Breakpoint Studio LLC (“us”). Breakpoint Studio respects your right to privacy and shares your concern about the security of any data you may submit via our mobile application (“Slopes”, or the “app”) or through our web site (the “site”), currently accessible at getslopes.com (collectively, the “Services”).

Your privacy is critically important to us. We don’t want to be creepy stalkers or evil spammers. We have a few fundamental principles:

The following statement discloses the guidelines Breakpoint Studio has established for protecting the information you provide to us during your visit to the site and while using the app.

What & Why

If you do not create an account with Slopes, all of your GPS data stays local to your phone, and no personal data is ever sent to Slopes.

If you create a Slopes account, we collect and use the following information to provide, improve, protect, and promote our Services.

Your Stuff

Slopes is designed as a way to track, relive, and share your days skiing and snowboarding. To do that, we need to gather and process certain information about you. (“Your Stuff”).

Account information

We collect, and associate with your account, the information you provide to us when you do things such as sign up for your account, subscribe to a paid plan, and set up two-factor authentication (like your name, email address, phone number, payment info, and physical address) Personally identifiable account information is stores separately from GPS and location data.

Location Data

Slopes includes various location-based features such as tracking outdoor winter sports activities. To provide these location-based features Slopes will use precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your mobile device, when you use the app.

This location data is stored locally on your phone and you may delete it at any time. If you sign up for a Slopes account, we will store a copy of this location data on our servers to provide online backup and synchronization between all your devices.

For third-party partners, such as social media networks, this information will only be shared with your explicit permission, and only if you choose to share it.

Photo Data

Slopes's photo integration on both iOS and Android keeps all photos and photo-metadata on-device, unless you manually attach a photo to a recording. In that case we'll upload a backup to our servers to sync with other devices.

Google API Integration for Photos and Fitness

Slopes's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We don't transfer your data to any other app, though. All that data stays local to Slopes on-device.

Marketing

If you register for our Services, we will, from time to time, send you information about the Services. Users who receive these marketing materials can opt out at any time. If you don’t want to receive a particular type of marketing material from us, click the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the corresponding emails. However, you may not opt out of certain essential system notice communications.

Aggregated Statistics

We may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to our website and users of the app. For example, we may aggregate anonymous location data to report resort popularity or publish a report on trends in the usage of Slopes.

If you're a Premium Pass holder, you'll be using MapBox for terrain maps. They collect anonymous information about how people use their mapping service. Opting out of anonymous statistics for Slopes will also opt you out of their metrics. You can read about how they use your anonymous data here TL;DR? They're cool, and not creepy, otherwise we wouldn't be using them.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Breakpoint Studio collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Our purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use the site.

Email Communications

If you choose to stop receiving emails regarding Slopes, please follow the unsubscribe instructions within each email communication or send an email to hello@getslopes.com. We will not provide or share any mailing lists or other information about you to another company or service for promotional purposes.

Any service-related emails (help requests, feedback, etc.) generally do not offer an option to unsubscribe as they are necessary to provide the service you requested.

Data Security

Slopes uses industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to allow for the encryption of personal and location information during transmissions to our servers.

We restrict access to data to our employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve the app. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations and may be subject to discipline if they fail to meet those obligations.
